Budget Reality and Impact vs Politics and Hot Air
06 Apr 2016
The ongoing Budget discussions, particularly with regards to superannuation, unfortunately contain mainly populist hot air, rather than real economic argument and logic. Whilst we would agree that superannuation benefits at the “top end” are generous, the reality is there are not a huge number of these funds and therefore the money raised from higher taxes on these large funds will be insignificant. We also believe they will never really attack negative gearing, because that would be a sure bet to prick the residential property bubble, or whatever you want to call it (we can certainly say there is little logic to support current prices).
